About CHELCO
Founded in 1940, Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CHELCO) is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric distribution cooperative serving over 62,000 accounts across Walton, Okaloosa, Holmes, and Santa Rosa counties in the panhandle of Florida. With a commitment to providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity, CHELCO employs over 170 people and maintains over 4,300 miles of line, including those on Eglin Air Force Base.
As a distribution cooperative, CHELCO exclusively purchases its energy from PowerSouth Energy Cooperative. The cooperative is democratically controlled by its member-owners, who vote to elect the Board of Trustees representing nine districts throughout the service territory. With a dedication to community empowerment, CHELCO has consistently provided powerful service and has not had a rate increase since 2012.
