Chemung County Library District

Chemung County Library District is a public library system serving its community through five library locations and a bookmobile. Its branches include Steele Memorial Library, Big Flats Library, Horseheads Free Library, Van Etten Library, and West Elmira Library. The district offers access to books and other collections, online resources, and digital services for borrowing and streaming. Visitors can explore recommendations, book clubs, storytimes, and programs for babies and toddlers, children, tweens, teens, and adults.

Beyond lending, the library supports learning, research, and local discovery with genealogy resources, classes, tutorials, newspapers, local history materials, digital collections, and community information. In-person services include meeting-room reservations, a makerspace, computers and printing, technology help, notary services, and accessibility support. The district also hosts events and activities, shares staff reading recommendations and blog updates, and provides a newsletter for people who want to stay informed. Community members can learn about library policies and governance, donate, connect with Friends groups and library foundations, or explore employment opportunities.
