Black River Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Black River Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a martial arts school located at 154 Route 206 in Chester, New Jersey. The academy offers Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training for adults and children, welcoming beginners as well as students pursuing fitness or competition. Programs include adult gi and no-gi classes, beginner-level instruction, children’s classes for ages five and up, and separate junior classes for ages three to five. Women-only gi classes focus on self-defense and the foundations of jiu jitsu. Training aims to develop practical self-defense skills, confidence, stamina, resilience, and competitive ability in a supportive setting.

The school provides a playroom for children and siblings while parents or family members attend class, along with changing rooms and individual lockers. Membership is billed monthly, with fees available by contacting the academy. Adults and children may try one class at no cost, and private lessons can be arranged by request. Owner and instructor Karl Tulp has practiced jiu jitsu for more than 20 years and teaches adult and children’s classes.
