About U.S. Backgammon Federation
The Chicago Open Backgammon Tournament is an annual event bringing together backgammon players for competitive play, exhibitions, and community activities. Its 44th tournament is scheduled for May 20–25, 2026, at the Hyatt Centric Chicago O’Hare, and includes the 2026 Women’s National Championship. The program features the American Backgammon Tour (ABT) Main Event, a Players Cup, the Zavoral Board Tournament, a Dirk versus Gerry exhibition match, and additional side events.
The ABT Open, Intermediate, and Novice divisions use a MoreSwiss format, allowing players to remain in the main event until their fourth loss; USBGF membership is required for these divisions. The tournament also offers live streaming through BG Galaxy and Ace Point BG’s YouTube channels, along with event videos and a downloadable brochure. Attendees can access tournament hotel booking information, including a special room rate with breakfast and discounted or complimentary parking, depending on their stay.
