The Chido Museum, established in 1950 by the 16th lord of the Shonai clan, Takayoshi Sakai, aims to enhance local culture through the preservation of historical artifacts and properties. Originally formed as the Ibumkai foundation, it transitioned to its current status as a public foundation in 2012. The museum, named after the Shonai clan's educational institution, Chido-kan, focuses on safeguarding various educational materials, including rare books and ceremonial objects related to local history.

At the heart of the museum are its core exhibits, which feature a diverse range of archaeological, historical, and ethnological artifacts. The collection includes over 5,350 items designated as Important Tangible Folk Cultural Properties, offering insights into the region's rich heritage and cultural transformations. Additionally, the museum hosts regular special exhibitions to promote local art and culture, alongside facilities like the Matsugaoka reclamation site, which showcases traditional farming tools. The museum serves as a vital cultural hub, connecting past and present for future generations.
