CHIEMGAU WELLE e. V. is a nonprofit association founded in January 2018 to create a standing river-surfing wave in Traunstein, in the Chiemgau region of Bavaria.
The project aims to bring an accessible, environmentally friendly water-sports attraction to the area, offering action for surfers and an engaging place for spectators and visitors. The association says the wave could contribute to local activity and commerce while giving residents a surfing option closer to home. Traunstein’s city council supported the project unanimously in October 2018, and the association submitted detailed planning documents to the authorities in December 2020.
The website reports that construction approval was granted in September 2021. CHIEMGAU WELLE invites people to become members, join team activities, donate, or support the project as sponsors and ambassadors. It also shares news and organizes community initiatives, including clean-up activities during work on the Mühlbach.
