Chikondi

Chikondis e.V. is an organization dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of mothers and children in Malawi. Its name comes from Chewa, where “chikondi” means love and admiration—values that guide its vision of giving every mother and child respectful, compassionate support. The organization is working to establish Pachikondis Birthclinic, described as Malawi’s first birth clinic. Construction has begun after 11 years of fundraising and preparation, and donations are still needed to support the project.

The planned clinic will provide care throughout pregnancy, childbirth and the period after birth. Its services include professional training and continuing education for midwives, who will work in close contact with German partner colleagues. Mothers will also be able to access education, prevention guidance and advice, while children will receive professional care in a safe environment. Chikondis aims to help reduce excessive maternal and child mortality and give families a healthier, more secure start together. The organization invites donors and volunteers to support its work and help bring this vision to life.
