First Steps Urban Outreach, Inc. is a Bronx-based child care training center serving individuals, organizations, businesses, and community groups. Its mission is to provide competent, innovative, quality training that supports community health and strengthens child care services. The organization says its work is conducted under the oversight of the New York State Department of Health, the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), and SUNY’s Professional Development Program.

Courses include a 15-hour Health and Safety program for people preparing to work in or open a home-based child care or day care facility, and 15-hour Directors Training focused on policies and practices that promote a safe, high-quality environment. Family and group family day care providers can take a 30-hour Health and Safety recertification, required every two years. First Steps also offers the School-Age Care (SAC) Credential, which uses standards, training, and evaluation to promote quality services for children and families. CPR and First Aid training is available for child care facilities, schools, and community groups.
