Chimp Haven

Chimp Haven is the world’s largest chimpanzee sanctuary, located on 200 forested acres in Louisiana. It provides a permanent home for nearly 300 chimpanzees retired from biomedical research, where they can live in social groups and enjoy greater choice and opportunities to express natural behaviors. The sanctuary’s care includes fresh, healthy meals, expert medical attention, daily enrichment, and spacious areas for exploring and socializing.

Chimp Haven introduces visitors to the chimps and their individual personalities through its website, educational resources, and on-site experiences. Visitors can schedule tours, take a virtual tour, attend events, and learn what to expect when planning a visit. Education programs include webinars, lessons and activities, a chimpanzee blog, and information about conservation and the challenges of keeping chimps as pets.
