About CHM Supersound
CHM Supersound is the premier record label in the South Pacific, with a rich history of producing the best in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and South Pacific music for over 35 years. Their strong track record and delivery of hits and high-quality content have led them to collaborate with major organizations such as FIFA, APEC, Pepsi, Red Cross, and the Pacific Games, to produce songs, videos, concerts, and TV shows for the PNG, regional, and international market. The story of CHM Supersound began when its founder, Raymond Chin, a talented musician himself, joined the popular 'Stranger's band in Rabaul, PNG.
Inspired by the distinctive style of the legendary Black Brothers band from West Papua, he decided to open his own recording studio, CHM Supersound Studios, in 1979. Raymond believed in the potential of PNG music and recognized the untapped talent within the country. CHM Supersound became the first commercial recording studio in PNG and recorded the first generation of PNG bands and artists.
They provided support and assistance to local groups and musicians, acting as a catalyst for the production of good local music. With the goal of exposing PNG music to the rest of the South Pacific, CHM Supersound produced the groundbreaking program 'CHM Supersound Hits,' which was broadcast internationally in Honiara, Vanuatu, and Australia. Throughout the years, CHM Supersound has grown into a powerhouse label in the 90's and early 2000's, thanks to Raymond Chin's dedication.
He is affectionately known as the father of modern PNG music, having contributed significantly to its development. Raymond was awarded the Member of the British Empire designation in 2008 for his contributions to the PNG Music Industry. As the copyright holder, CHM Supersound continues to bring the vibrant and diverse sounds of PNG and the South Pacific to the world, ensuring the legacy of Raymond Chin and the talented artists they work with live on
