The Chris Eaton Foundation is a New Mexico nonprofit created by Chris Eaton’s family after his passing in 2022, carrying forward his commitment to mentoring young people and supporting student-athletes. Established in November 2023, the tax-exempt public charity helps students and families access healthy-living information, mental health resources, and practical support. Its central program, the Coach Chris Eaton Memorial Scholarship, awards college scholarships to graduating student-athletes from Albuquerque-area high schools.
Applicants must meet academic and athletic eligibility requirements, and selection considers wellness advocacy, leadership, academic performance, athletic contributions, and the influence of coaches or mentors. Since 2024, the Foundation has awarded $60,000 to nine student-athletes. Starting in 2027, it plans to offer four annual awards in different categories.
Beyond scholarships, the Foundation promotes mental and emotional wellbeing through community programs, wellness education, and partnerships, including a mental health conversation involving University of New Mexico student-athletes and local high school students
