Christa Nardi writes cozy mysteries with an edge. While her books are low on graphic violence, low heat, and no profanity, her main characters are strong, feisty women who tackle sensitive issues. Oftentimes in solving a mystery, the amateur sleuth uncovers infidelity or domestic violence or blackmail. Although there’s no bloody scenes, the protagonists do rile other characters, get knocked down or shot at. Like most cozy mysteries, the main character also has a life and relationships. Sheridan Hendley (Cold Creek Cozy Mysteries and Sheridan Hendley Mysteries) is in her fifties, married to a State Police Detective and step-mom to teen Maddie. She’s a professor and psychologist, and volunteers at a local dog rescue. Stacie Maroni (Stacie Maroni Mysteries) is in her mid- to late-thirties and is an HR specialist and trauma counselor at an insurance company. She also co-chairs a foundation to provide support to victims of domestic violence and to increase awareness of this problem. She shifts to amateur sleuth when her estranged husband is killed mid-divorce proceedings. Her job, her friends, and her relationship with the local police detective keep her busy. Izzie Di Sante (Izzie Di Sante Mysteries) is approaching thirty, single, and torn between her loyalty to family and her passion for writing stories about murders. She’d been working and following murders as a freelance reporter in NY, when her mother became ill and she returned to small town Pinewood MD. When both parents passed away, she took over management of the family restaurant, made sure her sister Chloe got her dream of attending the culinary institute, and set aside her dreams. Only you can the reporter out of NY, but you can’t stop her instincts or curiosity.
