About Christmasdsm
Christkindlmarket Des Moines is a free, community-focused holiday festival that brings European Christmas market traditions to Iowa. Held at Principal Park in Des Moines, the 2026 market takes place December 3–6 and December 10–13. Inspired by a tradition dating back 700 years, the event offers visitors opportunities to explore European culture, enjoy festive entertainment, and celebrate the season together.
Guests can sample bratwurst, candied nuts, and other European foods, as well as warm Glühwein served in commemorative keepsake mugs. The market’s vendors offer handcrafted gifts and specialty items representing a range of European cultures. Families can visit KinderKorner for stories, songs, and cultural activities, while the entertainment stage features a diverse selection of performers. The festival also includes community and nonprofit programs, such as a nonprofit partnership program and a tree silent auction. Christkindlmarket Des Moines welcomes sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and visitors, creating a festive setting for shopping, cultural discovery, and shared holiday memories.
