Christoph Weniger’s Dark Universe and Deep Learning Lab is an academic research group focused on using modern machine learning to improve understanding of the dark Universe. Led by Dr. Christoph Weniger, an associate professor at GRAPPA (the Center of Excellence for Gravitation, Astroparticle Physics and Cosmology) and the University of Amsterdam’s Institute of Physics, the group works at the intersection of machine learning, physics and cosmology.
The lab shares its research through publications and articles covering topics such as warm dark matter, strong gravitational lensing, axions and neural methods for scientific inference. Recent work includes estimating warm dark matter mass from lensing images, investigating constraints on axions produced in pulsar polar cap cascades, and exploring contrastive neural ratio estimation. These topics reflect the group’s broader aim of applying computational techniques to questions about the nature and properties of the cosmos.
The website provides information about the lab’s research, team and publications, along with updates through its research blog.
