Established in 1997, the Clinical HIV Research Unit (CHRU) conducts clinical trials for the improved standard of care for the treatment of HIV, TB, HIV-associated diseases as well as Covid-19. CHRU clinical research sites are operational in Johannesburg, Durban and Gqeberha, South Africa. CHRU is committed to excellent, quality clinical research and is proud to have contributed to the breakthrough science which has improved the standard of treatment of infectious diseases within public healthcare. About Clinical Health Research Unit
The Clinical HIV Research Unit (CHRU) is actively contributing to global efforts to combat HIV, tuberculosis (TB), and HIV-associated cancers. Operating across four sites in South Africa, specifically in the Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and Eastern Cape provinces, CHRU is home to a multi-disciplinary team of experts making significant scientific contributions in this field. Located in Johannesburg and operating as a division of the Wits Health Consortium, CHRU conducts ground-breaking clinical trials and research to prevent, treat, and manage HIV/AIDS, TB, and associated diseases.
Affiliated with the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits) and backed by the Faculty of Health Sciences, CHRU strives for excellence and quality in clinical research.
