Ciao Genealogy helps descendants of Italian families investigate their heritage through surname distribution and genealogy research. Its searchable archive includes more than 120,000 Italian surnames and over 40,000 family coats of arms, alongside information about towns and regions that may offer useful leads. Visitors can explore where a surname appears and review origin notes when available, using geographic patterns to identify places to investigate further.

The site also provides professional research services for people who need to move beyond initial clues. These include research in Italian civil and parish records, help locating birth, marriage and death records from municipalities and archives, and focused research into surname origins, variants and likely geographic connections. Users can also request guidance on practical next steps based on the names, places, dates or documents they already know.

Ciao Genealogy publishes resources about Italian surnames, towns, historical records and family history research. Its public pages are intended as a starting point, and the site emphasizes that clues should be verified against original records.
