El Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red de Bioingeniería, Biomateriales y Nanomedicina (CIBER-BBN), reúne a algunos de los principales grupos de investigación españoles en la materia, tanto de universidades como de hospitales u otros centros tecnológicos. Su vocación es la de hacer una investigación traslacional y conseguir la transferencia a la industria de los resultados de dicha investigación. El CIBER-BBN está formado, en la actualidad, por 47 grupos de investigación (45 de pleno derecho y 2 más asociados) seleccionados sobre la base de su excelencia científica y repartidos por toda la geografía española, que forman en la actualidad un grupo multidisciplinar de expertos. Es uno de los nueve consorcios CIBER existentes en España, cuya creación ha sido liderada por el Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII), para fomentar la investigación de excelencia y la masa crítica de investigadores en los campos de la Biomedicina, las Ciencias de la Salud, y áreas afines como las que aborda el CIBER-BBN.
