The CIE Hungarian National Committee represents Hungary within the International Commission on Illumination (CIE), a nonprofit organization founded in 1913 to promote the international exchange of scientific and artistic knowledge about light, lighting, colour and vision. Hungary has been a member for most of the CIE’s history. The committee operates as a standing working group of the Hungarian Lighting Society, which took over Hungary’s support for CIE participation in 2010.
CIE’s work is organized across six divisions: vision and colour; measurement of light and radiation; interior lighting and design; transportation lighting and signals; photobiology and photochemistry; and imaging technology. Through its divisions and technical committees, the organization develops technical reports and standards covering the measurement and application of light and colour. These publications underpin international measurement, design and standardization practices. CIE also works with organizations including ISO, IEC and CEN, and undertakes joint technical work with other standards bodies.
