CIESM, the Mediterranean Science Commission, based in Monaco, has evolved from eight founding countries to 23 Member States. With a vast network of marine researchers, CIESM utilizes cutting-edge scientific tools to study and safeguard the rapidly changing Mediterranean Sea. Organized into six committees and taskforces, CIESM conducts expert workshops, collaborative initiatives, and congresses, offering expert advice to national and international organizations.
Covering diverse marine disciplines, including geo-physical, chemical, and biological processes, CIESM also focuses on high-resolution mapping of the sea-bottom. As the Mediterranean Sea undergoes unprecedented changes, CIESM monitors global warming's impacts, shifts in marine biodiversity, coastlines, and trace metal accumulation in food chains on a basin-wide scale. By engaging researchers from all shores, CIESM encourages scientific exchange and fosters peaceful dialogue, bridging historical conflicts.
