About Consorcio de Investigación del Golfo de México
The Consorcio de Investigación del Golfo de México (CIGoM) is a scientific research and consulting consortium founded in 2015, dedicated to multidisciplinary projects focusing on the potential environmental impacts of the oil and gas industry in the marine ecosystems of the Gulf of Mexico. Comprised of experienced and specialized personnel from leading Mexican research and educational institutions, CIGoM aims to address the lack of information surrounding large-scale hydrocarbon spills in the region. Their projects include Integrative taxonomy studies, environmental pollutant responses in marine life, and participation in emergency response simulations.
Moreover, the consortium is currently working on implementing oceanographic observation networks funded by the National Council of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Energy to develop early warning systems, environmental monitoring, circulation models, degradation studies of oil, and spill scenarios to safeguard ecosystems.
