CIMH

The Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) is a regional training and research organisation created by the merger of the Caribbean Meteorological Institute and the Caribbean Operational Hydrological Institute. Based in Barbados, it works to strengthen meteorological and hydrological services across its member states and promote understanding of their contribution to economic well-being. Its activities include education and training, scientific research, investigations, consultancy, and specialised services and advice.

CIMH provides climate and weather information to support decision-making across the Caribbean. Its resources include rainfall and drought monitoring, precipitation outlooks, monthly climatological summaries, and regional and territorial numerical weather prediction outputs for national services. It also develops and shares tools such as a model for predicting tropical cyclone intensity. Through regional initiatives and projects, the institute supports climate and environmental research, early-warning systems, and agricultural meteorology. Its consultancy and technical work includes marine forecasting, with a focus on improving marine products and strengthening related training and research.
