About Cinema Akil
Cinema Akil is an independent cinema platform in the UAE that is dedicated to bringing quality films from around the world to audiences. As a nomadic cinema, Cinema Akil has organized over 60 pop-up cinemas, attracting more than 65,000 attendees in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. Their mission is to showcase directors and filmmakers from different decades, creating awareness and interest in film and the cinematic arts.
In September 2018, Cinema Akil opened its first permanent location in Al Quoz, Dubai - the GCC's first arthouse cinema. This flagship home, in partnership with Alserkal, allows film enthusiasts to have a curated selection of films available to them throughout the year. Cinema Akil is also a proud member of various esteemed organizations such as the Network of Arab Alternative Screens (NAAS), International Confederation of Art Cinemas (CICAE), International Documentary Association (IDA), and Programmers of Colour Collective (POC2).
