CIOL is a wood technology brand focused on modified wood designed for demanding, wet climates. Its CIOL process impregnates timber with a mixture of water, citric acid, sorbitol and additives derived from natural processes. Vacuum and pressure draw the mixture into the wood, where a curing step fixes the protection. The company presents this method as a sustainable, affordable solution intended to improve durability while preserving wood’s appearance outdoors.
CIOL-treated wood offers increased dimensional stability, resistance to rot fungi, and reduced susceptibility to black molds. The process also provides termite and marine protection, with sustainable fire retardants available for added fire protection. Treated wood does not require further treatment, although it can be painted.
The brand also offers CIOL Klopper, sturdy Norwegian pine boards for creating stable, secure walking surfaces on wet paths, muddy terrain and garden areas. Left rough for grip, they are designed to meet applicable regulations and treated with CIOL for longevity.
