About Centre for Internet and Society
Whose Knowledge?, the Oxford Internet Institute, and the Centre for Internet and Society have come together to produce the State of the Internet’s Languages report, aiming to address the significant lack of multilingual representation online. This initiative seeks to collect both quantitative data and personal narratives to illustrate the extent of the current language disparity on the internet. The main goal is to explore pathways to foster a truly multilingual internet that reflects global diversity.
The Centre for Internet and Society focuses on interdisciplinary research concerning digital technology, covering areas like accessibility, internet governance, and digital privacy. The Oxford Internet Institute, part of the University of Oxford, engages in the social science study of the Internet. Meanwhile, Whose Knowledge? advocates for the inclusion of marginalized voices, promoting their stories and knowledge online.
This research invites contributions from individuals with unique insights into online language issues, regardless of their professional background. By understanding diverse experiences around language use online, the project aims to illuminate the challenges and opportunities in enhancing linguistic diversity on the Internet.
