About UVU Africa
Cape I. T. Initiative, born at the tip of Africa in Cape Town over two decades ago, is an impact organization with a powerful vision.
They strive to build a future-fit and inclusive society through technology and innovation. Back in 1999, a group of civic activists founded the Cape IT Initiative and the Bandwidth Barn. They aimed to empower all Africans to be part of the digital economy and foster entrepreneurship and digital skills development.
Their ultimate goal was to stimulate economic clusters that provide growth opportunities within the ecosystem. As the organization evolved, it became known as the Cape Innovation & Technology Initiative (CiTi) in 2015. The renowned Bandwidth Barn, considered the oldest tech incubator in Africa, expanded its reach to the informal economy and the township of Khayelitsha.
This expansion allowed CiTi to provide dedicated support to entrepreneurs who were previously excluded from participating in the digital economy. Cape I. T.
Initiative is truly dedicated to building future societies today by fostering innovation, resilience, and economic growth. Watch the video for a glimpse into their impactful journey
