Citizen Lab is an interdisciplinary laboratory based at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy, University of Toronto, Canada. Their focus is on research, development, and high-level strategic policy and legal engagement at the intersection of information and communication technologies, human rights, and global security. They employ a mixed methods approach to research, combining practices from political science, law, computer science, and area studies.

Their research covers a wide range of topics, including investigating digital espionage against civil society, documenting internet filtering and its impact on freedom of expression online, analyzing the privacy, security, and information controls of popular applications, and examining transparency and accountability mechanisms between corporations and state agencies. The founder and current director of the Citizen Lab is Professor Ron Deibert. The lab's work is made possible through financial support from various organizations and in-kind donations of investigative tools from companies.
