Citrus Greening Solutions is a USDA NIFA project dedicated to combating the devastating citrus greening disease, also known as huanglongbing. This disease has had a significant impact on the citrus industry in Florida, California, and Texas, affecting production and availability of citrus fruits. Through extensive research efforts, including genome sequencing of citrus hosts like Citrus clementina and Citrus sinensis, as well as the Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri) and Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus bacteria, the project aims to find practical solutions for treatment and prevention of citrus greening.

The project also focuses on developing novel biological delivery methods for therapeutic agents, accelerating the implementation of HLB-tolerant hybrids, and creating antimicrobial peptides from citrus to combat the CLas bacterium. With ongoing research and collaborative efforts, Citrus Greening Solutions is working towards keeping citrus affordable and readily available for consumers.
