About City of Asylum Bookstore at Alphabet City | Pittsburgh PA
City of Asylum Books is a brand dedicated to creating a just community for writers, readers, and neighbors. Our mission is to provide sanctuary for endangered literary writers, ensuring that their voices are not silenced. We offer a wide range of literary programs in various community settings to foster cross-cultural exchange.
As part of our commitment to neighborhood economic development, we transform blighted properties into homes for these programs and invigorate public spaces with text-based public art. At City of Asylum Books, you can visit our bookstore located at 40 W. North Avenue in Pittsburgh's North Side.
We are open daily from 12pm to 6pm. Our bookstore showcases a curated selection of books, including the 15 Years of City of Asylum collection and works by our exiled writers-in-residence such as Tuhin Das, Horacio Castellanos Moya, Huang Xiang, and many more. We also offer book bundles and accept bulk orders.
Join us in celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, Women in Translation Month, and discover our recommended anti-racist reading lists for both adults and young readers. Be part of our mission to foster a vibrant literary community and support the voices that need to be heard
