Civic Coding is an innovative network that aims to promote the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the common good. It brings together various stakeholders and projects from different sectors to create a vibrant network for socially-oriented AI in Germany. The Civic Coding initiative is a joint effort by the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (BMAS), the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ), and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV).

The platform offers a range of products and services geared towards fostering a community focused on societal and environmental well-being. These include the Civic Innovation Platform, which connects and supports actors from diverse fields to develop AI technologies for social innovation. The Civic Data Lab empowers civil society by helping with data collection, utilization, and sharing.

Additionally, the KI-Ideenwerkstatt serves as a hub for individuals interested in using digital tools, data analysis, and AI for environmental protection. Civic Coding also organizes various events, publications, and funding opportunities to stimulate collaboration and promote the utilization of AI for the common good. By fostering cross-sector partnerships and encouraging societal engagement, Civic Coding is creating a dynamic ecosystem for community-driven AI initiatives in Germany
