About Civil Rights Defenders
Civil Rights Defenders is a politically and religiously independent human rights organization working towards a world where everyone can enjoy their civil and political rights. They partner with and provide support to human rights defenders operating in some of the most oppressive regions across four continents. With their headquarters located in Stockholm, Civil Rights Defenders has eight regional branch offices around the world.
Established in 1982 as the Swedish Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, the organization was renamed Civil Rights Defenders in 2009. They have a dedicated team of around 100 staff members and operate in over 50 countries globally. Their work is funded by government organizations, foundations, corporate partnerships, and contributions from private donors.
As a registered Swedish nonprofit organization, Civil Rights Defenders is religiously and politically unaffiliated, and their work is monitored by Swedish Fundraising Control.
