@claima.eu
CLAIMA is a Horizon Europe project coordinated by the Alfred-Wegener-Institut, running from September 2026 to August 2030. It will develop an AI platform for European climate modelling, designed for deployment on European HPC and AI Factory infrastructures and aligned with initiatives such as Destination Earth. The platform will deliver pre-operational AI capabilities ready for uptake by research, industry and public services, with flagship applications in Earth system science, climate-resilient shipping, energy infrastructure planning and climate-related health risks. The overarching aim will be to make AI a reliable, operational tool for climate science, strengthening Europe's scientific and digital sovereignty in this field.

About CLAIMA.eu
CLAIMA is a European initiative developing an AI-based digital twin to strengthen climate resilience. The Horizon Europe project focuses on climate modelling and analysis, with a platform designed for deployment on European high-performance computing and AI Factory infrastructures and intended to work alongside Destination Earth (DestinE). Its goal is to advance reliable AI climate tools for European science and decision-making.
CLAIMA is developing AI climate models, emulators and learned downscaling methods adapted for European use. Models are to be tested against observations, while a modular platform will support the full AI model lifecycle using shared standards. The project aims to demonstrate a pre-operational prototype by August 2030.
Four use cases guide this work: advancing Earth system science; assessing how changing winds, sea ice and extreme weather may affect shipping; evaluating climate stresses on energy generation and grids; and mapping future climate-related health risks to support early warning and adaptation. These applications are intended to provide climate information for researchers, industry and public services.
