About CLAN
CLAN (Canada’s Leading African Network) is a nonprofit organization advancing Black economic empowerment, beginning in Durham Region near Toronto and building connections across Canada. Launched in 2018 and incorporated in 2024, it expands access to opportunity through entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership development, workforce advancement, and community collaboration. Its programs serve Black entrepreneurs, professionals, students, newcomers, and community members.
Durham Black Futures convenes regional leaders and residents to strengthen economic opportunity, while the Durham Black Futures Accelerator helps aspiring and early-stage founders validate ideas, develop sustainable businesses, access mentorship, and prepare for investment. The Durham Black Futures Fund connects Black-owned businesses and social enterprises with grants, micro-funding, advisory services, and capital-readiness support. CLAN also provides mentorship, scholarships, internships, and career development through its Black Student Success Network; business education, networking, procurement, marketing, and digital support through the Black Business Collective; and settlement, employment, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship resources for newcomers through New Beginnings Canada.
Events and partnerships further its goal of building thriving businesses, meaningful careers, and stronger communities
