Climate Dividends is a non-profit initiative that helps companies and investors measure and communicate the positive climate impact of solutions that avoid or remove carbon dioxide emissions. Its goal is to make these contributions visible to investors and support the flow of capital toward climate solutions. The initiative provides a standardised mechanism for assessing climate impact and awarding Climate Dividends to shareholders in proportion to their ownership.
For companies, Climate Dividends offers a way to monitor climate strategies, compare activities, and share credible impact information with investors and customers. Investors can use the metric in due diligence, portfolio performance evaluation, and communication with stakeholders. Claims follow a five-step process: eligibility checks, impact assessment, independent third-party audit, public registration and issuance, and distribution to shareholders.
The mechanism is supported by a public Protocol and sector-specific methodologies that set out how avoided and removed emissions should be assessed. A public registry provides access to claim documentation, including declarations, carbon footprints, audit materials, and issuance certificates.
