About Climate Action Association in Jordan
Climate Action Network (CAN) is a renowned Jordanian environmental NGO, established in 2013 as the first organization in the Middle East dedicated to climate change solutions. Based in Amman, CAN operates under the supervision of the Jordan Ministry of Environment and boasts a Board of Directors that provides policy direction and oversight. This board consists of climate action experts highly regarded in the field of sustainable innovations for communities and cities.
CAN's Executive Team, comprising 21 full-time employees (8 Male and 13 Female) and over 25 community agents, is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization. CAN's work is structured around six technical departments, including Climate Mitigation, Climate Adaptation, WASH, Climate Justice and Socioeconomic, Energy Innovation, and Environment Initiatives. Supported by three other departments, CAN is equipped to tackle climate change by establishing partnerships between local communities, businesses, governments, and public bodies, thereby shifting towards a sustainable society and cities.
CAN's programs focus on serving vulnerable and marginalized groups, such as children, women, refugees, farmers, and persons with disabilities, among others. With successful projects, partnerships, and researches under its belt, CAN has garnered membership in regional and international environmental consortiums and networks. It has also coordinated grants from esteemed funding partners like the EU, FAO, UNICEF, and others.
To ensure transparency and credibility, CAN has implemented policies and systems and has received a Low Risk rating from BDO International. CAN's ultimate vision is to create a community with safe water, green energy, sustainable ecosystems, inclusive infrastructure, and a resilient economy. To achieve this, it mobilizes knowledge, enhances institutional capacity, facilitates informed decision-making processes, and grants access to finance and technologies.
