About Clotilda: The Exhibition at the Africatown Heritage House
Africatown Heritage House is a museum in Mobile, Alabama, dedicated to sharing the history of the Clotilda and the community of Africatown. Its central attraction, Clotilda: The Exhibition, tells the story of the ship and gives particular attention to the 110 survivors and the community they helped shape. The Heritage House is constructed by Mobile County Commission, while its exhibition is curated and operated by the nonprofit History Museum of Mobile, with support from public, cultural, and philanthropic partners.
Visitors can explore the exhibition and attend educational programs, including the Heritage Lecture Series, which features talks on topics related to the Black experience, history, and cultural memory. The museum also welcomes media visits through a request process. Africatown Heritage House is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 2465 Winbush Street in Mobile. Tickets and tour information are available by contacting the museum. The institution connects historical interpretation with community stories and descendant perspectives to help make Africatown’s legacy accessible to the public.
