About CLS Program
The Critical Language Scholarship Program, a initiative of the U. S. Department of State, offers American college and university students an immersive summer opportunity to learn languages crucial to America's global engagement.
Participants spend eight to ten weeks in an intensive study abroad institute, focusing on one of thirteen languages. Aimed at promoting rapid language proficiency and intercultural fluency, the CLS Program targets regions vital to U. S.
national security and economic interests. Additionally, the CLS Spark initiative allows students to study Arabic, Chinese, and Russian virtually at introductory levels. Alumni of the program develop key language skills applicable across various professional sectors, contributing to America's competitiveness.
Through citizen diplomacy, scholars represent the diversity of the United States, fostering mutual understanding with people from different cultures. Supported by the U. S.
Government and implemented by American Councils for International Education, the CLS Program prepares students for a globalized world
