About CMBHC
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Black Heritage Committee (CMBHC) is a 501(c)(3) organization established in 2004 to help preserve and share African American history and culture in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Its mission is to facilitate, collaborate on, promote, and support the identification, collection, documentation, and dissemination of the region’s African American heritage. The committee places particular emphasis on history from before urban renewal, seeking to present it with honor and ensure it remains part of the wider historical record.
Its vision is for African American heritage and culture to be preserved and included as an integral part of United States and world heritage. CMBHC offers resources and activities that connect the public with local history, including information about historic African American neighborhoods and an African American heritage driving tour.
