About CMMR
The Canadian Mouse Mutant Repository (CMMR) is a central repository for cryopreserved mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells, sperm, and embryos. Established in 2002, it supports researchers by preserving mouse resources from large-scale production projects at The Centre for Phenogenomics and from individual scientists. CMMR offers fee-for-service access to its services, as well as to publicly available mouse lines and ES cells in its collection.
The repository’s services include embryo and sperm cryopreservation and recovery, and secure, monitored cryostorage for ES cells, embryos, and sperm. It also provides strain services, including IVF rederivation, speed expansion, and strain rescue, along with NorCOMM ES cell withdrawal. By archiving mouse lines and samples, researchers can reduce the number of animals maintained in live colonies, save space, protect resources from unforeseen events, and make distribution to collaborators and other scientists easier. CMMR aims to establish best practices and coordinate its work with repositories worldwide.
