The Council for the Mathematical Sciences (CMS) is a prominent organization established in 2001 by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), the London Mathematical Society (LMS), and the Royal Statistical Society (RSS). Comprising representatives and observers from the mathematical sciences community, including the Presidents and Chief Executives of these three societies, CMS serves as an authoritative and objective body. Its primary purpose is to shape and respond to policy issues in higher education, research, and UK policy that impact the mathematical sciences, consequently influencing the overall UK economy and society.
Under the leadership of Professor Alison Etheridge OBE, FRS, FIMA, the CMS aims to develop and advocate UK policies that benefit the mathematical sciences. It collaborates with various organizations and stakeholders to ensure its objectives are met. Through its National Academy for the Mathematical Sciences, CMS provides valuable resources, expert insights, and strives to foster growth and excellence within the field.
With an extensive range of news, press releases, reports, and policy submissions, CMS is an essential platform for professionals, researchers, and educators in the mathematical sciences
