The Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) is a global platform initiated by the United Nations for the conservation and sustainable use of migratory animals and their habitats. This environmental treaty brings together the Range States and lays the legal foundation for internationally coordinated conservation measures throughout migratory ranges. As the only global convention dedicated to the conservation of migratory species, their habitats, and migration routes, CMS collaborates with various international organizations, NGOs, and media and corporate partners.

CMS works towards protecting migratory species listed on Appendix I of the Convention from extinction, conserving their habitats, and mitigating obstacles to migration. The Convention also encourages Range States to establish global or regional agreements for migratory species listed on Appendix II, incorporating tailored models to address conservation needs.
