The San Luis Obispo Chapter of the California Native Plant Society (CNPS-SLO) is a local nonprofit chapter dedicated to increasing appreciation and understanding of California’s native plants and helping conserve their natural habitats. Founded in 1967, it serves San Luis Obispo and northern Santa Barbara Counties. Its work combines education, science, advocacy, horticulture, and land stewardship, with activities for people interested in native plants and local ecosystems.
CNPS-SLO offers community events, chapter meetings, field trips, workshops, and seasonal plant sales. Its resources support native gardening and plant identification, including local plant lists, a San Luis Obispo planting guide, advice on growing native plants, and information about birds, butterflies, pests, and invasive plants. The chapter also shares conservation information, including material on rare plants, natural communities, and CEQA projects.
Its online store features books and guides about California flora, local wildflowers, and native gardening, as well as e-books and free educational resources. Through events, publications, and volunteer engagement, CNPS-SLO connects residents with the region’s distinctive plant life and its protection.
