COA Aktionswoche

COA-Aktionswoche is a nationwide awareness initiative focused on children and young people growing up in families affected by addiction. Organized across Germany by NACOA Deutschland together with participating associations, projects, support services and community groups, the campaign brings these children’s experiences into public view and encourages understanding rather than pity. Its annual week of action takes place in February, with events and activities designed to inform the public, highlight available help and strengthen prevention.

The initiative also encourages people who work with children, including teachers, healthcare professionals, sports coaches and youth leaders, to recognize the effects of parental addiction and respond appropriately. Participants can share local activities, engage regional media and use campaign resources such as posters, flyers, social media templates and informational materials. Past activities have included exhibitions, community campaigns, performances and educational events.

COA-Aktionswoche also calls on decision-makers to expand support for affected children and ensure that services receive long-term funding. The initiative is supported through statutory health insurance self-help funding in Germany
