About COAA
COAA, the Centro de Observação Astronómica no Algarve, is a renowned astronomical observatory situated in the Algarve region of southern Portugal. Known for its exceptional observing conditions, COAA provides amateur astronomers the chance to use high-quality telescopes under some of Europe’s sunniest skies. The facility is equipped with several advanced telescopes, including a notable 0.
5m f4. 5 Newtonian reflecting telescope, a 0. 3m f5 Newtonian on a Dobsonian mount, and a remotely operable 0.
2m f4. 4 Newtonian reflector. While COAA no longer offers accommodation or meals, it welcomes visitors for guided observing sessions that last approximately two hours, starting at varying times depending on the season.
These sessions are affordably priced at €25 per person. Additionally, COAA features a remote observing service that allows users to control the 0. 2m telescope and capture images in real time via a web interface.
