CoAct is a collaborative research project advancing Citizen Social Science (CSS) as a way to address pressing social concerns. Its approach brings citizens into research as co-researchers, with citizen groups who share a concern helping to co-design and directly drive the work. The project focuses on four areas: mental health care, youth employment, environmental justice and gender equality.

Rather than offering commercial products, CoAct shares knowledge and practical resources to support participatory research and public engagement. Its website features project reports, publications, policy briefs, videos, readings and open materials, as well as a CSS Toolkit and guidance on the CoAct research cycle. The project also provides opportunities to explore its work through events, community contributions and the CSS School.

CoAct connects researchers, partners and communities around a more inclusive understanding of how social research can be conducted. The initiative received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme under grant agreement No. 873048. Its published work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
