About Coalfields Regeneration Trust
The Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT) is a dedicated charity that supports communities in former coalfield areas across Britain, particularly those affected by the pit closure program of the 1980s and 1990s. Established in 1999 with government backing, CRT focuses on fostering job creation and economic growth through initiatives like building industrial units for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). By utilizing the profits from these ventures, CRT funds vital community projects centered around five core themes: Community, Health, Skills, Jobs, and Climate.
The trust partners with over 700 grassroots organizations and collaborates with national entities such as the WEA and Macmillan Cancer Support to drive impactful change. With a dedicated leadership team and ongoing support from the Scottish and Welsh governments, CRT is committed to helping communities reclaim their vitality and potential, thereby laying the foundation for a prosperous future in areas historically linked to the coal mining industry.
