**Brand Description: Coastal Cluster**
The Coastal Cluster, operational from 2013 to 2024, was a collaborative research initiative funded by CSIRO's Flagship Collaboration Fund. Its primary aim was to identify the social and institutional factors influencing the utilization of scientific research in coastal zone management. The cluster organized its research into five thematic groups: Governance Systems, Knowledge Systems, Socio-cultural Context, Adaptive Learning, and Synthesis, addressing crucial objectives such as enhancing the connection between scientific outcomes and the needs of governments, communities, and industries.
Over its ten-year lifespan, the Coastal Cluster produced over 90 publications, including 44 peer-reviewed papers and four comprehensive books, providing accessible science-focused resources for effective coastal management. The initiative was supported by esteemed partner agencies, including Curtin University, Deakin University, and the University of Adelaide. The CSIRO Coastal Informatics team managed its online presence, facilitating easy access to research findings until the website was decommissioned in 2024. The Coastal Cluster remains a significant contribution to Australian coastal zone management and sustainable innovation.
