COBEC (Community Based Environmental Conservation) is a community-based organization that is committed to promoting biodiversity conservation in coastal regions. Registered with the Kenyan Ministry of Social Services in 2009, COBEC works collaboratively with the community and stakeholders to carry out various conservation initiatives along the Coastal region. The organization's mission is to protect the natural resource heritage through conservation education, habitat preservation, and the promotion of sustainable utilization of marine resources.

By offering grassroots blue economy opportunities and responsibly marketing marine products and services, COBEC aims to empower local communities to manage and conserve natural resources in a way that aligns with their social, cultural, and economic context. Some of COBEC's key objectives include the development and implementation of research programs, environmental conservation, community development for sustainable development, and capacity building and empowerment of community conservation groups. They also focus on the conservation of sea turtles through the development of strategies and guidelines and the facilitation of management.

With a bottom-up approach, COBEC emphasizes the importance of community involvement and decision-making in environmental conservation. They recognize that the success of conservation efforts depends on the support and engagement of a wide spectrum of society. By reversing top-down conservation practices, COBEC ensures that local communities play a central role in protecting natural resources and biodiversity.
