The Coble and Keelboat Society (CKS) is a registered charity dedicated to researching and preserving the maritime heritage of the North East and Yorkshire Coast. For 30 years, it has documented the history of the Coble Coast, from the River Tweed to the Humber, with a particular focus on inshore craft and fishing traditions. Its members include fishermen, authors, poets, artists, model makers and maritime historians, as well as owners of sailing and motor cobles and other working boats.
The society supports its work through membership, publications and events. Members receive the monthly Coblegram newsletter, featuring society news, boat updates, historical articles and an events diary, along with printed journals containing longer articles, artwork and members’ writing. CKS also holds group meetings through its Tyne to Tweed and Cleveland Coast and North Yorkshire groups. Members can access discounts on maritime-history publications sold by the society, including reprints of out-of-print works. Membership costs £15 per year, and prospective members can request a form through the society’s contact page.
