The college was established on the 4th August, 1977, by the then Gongola State Government vide edict No. 3 of 1978, to provide courses of study, training and research in arts, languages and the sciences as well as in vocational and technical subjects, leading to the award of the Nigeria College of Education (NCE).The College took off on the 26th January 1978, on a temporary site at Nukkai Primary School Jalingo .
