About Cofradía de Jesús
The Real y Muy Ilustre Cofradía de Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno, established in 1600 by Bishop Juan de Zúñiga, is a prestigious religious fraternity dedicated to honoring and promoting the veneration of Our Lord Jesus Nazareno. This esteemed organization operates out of its historic church to provide spiritual support to its members and the wider community in Murcia, Spain.
The core mission of the Cofradía involves offering devout tributes and maintaining sacred images, thereby enriching the spiritual lives of its congregants. Every year, the Cofradía participates in a significant procession during Holy Week, highlighted by an extraordinary celebration on Good Friday.
The organization has evolved significantly over the centuries, particularly in the 18th century when it undertook extensive improvements to enhance its church and processional practices, including the commissioning of renowned sculptor Francisco Salzillo to redefine its religious artifacts.
As it approaches its 425th anniversary in 2025, the Cofradía invites public participation in its events, ensuring that its rich traditions continue to thrive.
